- The totems, which have been installed in tourist areas of Benidorm, highlight the work that the students have done against excessive tourism and for healthy leisure.
- The Emotional Tourism Project has just been approved in the Senate and now it will be up to the Government to legislate accordingly.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Antonio Pérez, today visited the three totems that represent the Young Emotions Tourism project, an educational project started by students from 4 schools and institutes in Benidorm (Colegio Internacional Lope de Vega, IES Almadrava, IES Beatriu Fajardo, IES Mediterrània), and in which 5 other centers from the province of Alicante and Valencia have also participated.
The recently installed totems are located in three of the city's most popular tourist spots: Plaza del Torrejó, Plaza del Castillo, and Elche Park. Each totem features a brief explanation of the project and a QR code that leads to the web page of the same and where a video made by the students appears.
The aim of these totems, designed by the protagonists themselves, is to publicize this initiative that has gained the support of all administrations, starting with the Benidorm City Council, which in 2018 awarded it the Autonomous and Local City of Benidorm Prize.
From Benidorm to the Senate, and from the Senate to the Government
The initiative of these 1000 young people, aged between 14 and 17, has reached the Senate, and the upper house has approved a motion calling for leisure activities to be included in school curricula to prevent excessive and unrestrained tourism. This motion was presented by Senator Agustín Almodóbar last February with the support of all political groups, and it is now up to the relevant government to comply with the Senate's mandate.
